Dr. Marcos Campillo-Fenoll is a Professor of Spanish and Spanish Coordinator at West Chester University's Department of Languages and Cultures within the College of Arts & Humanities. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.A. from the Universidad de Murcia (Spain) and San José State University. His roles include Associate Managing Editor of Decimonónica, a journal focusing on 19th-century Hispanic studies.
His research centers on 19th-century Spanish American literary production, literary historiography, and the intersection of literature with economic markets and national identity formation. Key interests include anthology studies, cultural canon formation, and contemporary academic novels in Spanish America. Recent work includes translations of feminist texts and critical analyses of Latin American narratives.
He teaches a wide range of Spanish-language courses (intermediate through graduate levels), as well as English-language general education courses on Latin American culture and literature. His courses emphasize cultural context, narrative techniques, and interdisciplinary approaches.
Dr. Campillo-Fenoll has published widely on topics such as Argentine masculinities in poetry, intertextual influences between Hemingway and García Márquez, and the role of anthologies in national identity construction. Recent conference presentations include discussions of violence in contemporary Argentine academic novels and digital humanities tools like Twine for narrative creation.
