Marco Schmidt

Prof. Dr. Marco Schmidt serves as Professor of Embedded Systems and Sensors for Earth Observation (ESSEO) at the University of Würzburg's Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. He is stationed in the Department of Computer Science VIII (Information Technology for Aerospace) at Campus Hubland Nord, Emil-Fischer-Str. 70, Room 1.0014, Würzburg, Germany.

His research specialization centers on earth observation and environmental monitoring through robotics and space technology applications. Dr. Schmidt's work bridges aerospace engineering with practical environmental monitoring solutions, focusing on embedded sensor systems deployed in space and aerial platforms. His research contributes significantly to the university's Digitality, Data Science & Algorithms research profile area.

Previously, from 2021-2022, he held a professorship at the Center Robotics (CERI institute) at University of Applied Sciences Wuerzburg Schweinfurt. Prior to that (2014-2021), he established the Robotics and Computer Technology group at Campus Velbert Heiligenhaus, Bochum University of Applied Sciences. His career demonstrates consistent advancement in aerospace information technology and robotics applications for earth sciences.

As part of Computer Science VIII, he contributes to projects including REXUS/BEXUS initiatives and SpaceMaster programs, working within the university's aerospace informatics framework that collaborates with international space agencies and research institutions.
