Marco Ciolli is an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Environmental and Mechanical Engineering (DICAM) and affiliated with the Center Agriculture Food Environment (C3A) at the University of Trento, Italy. He holds a National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor in 07/B2 Arboriculture and Forest Systems until 2034.
- PhD in Forest Assessment and Planning (University of Tuscia, 1998)
- 110 summa cum laude in Forestry (University of Florence, 1991)
His research focuses on applied ecology and geospatial modeling of forest landscapes, with expertise in:
- Forest biomass energy production
- Traditional Ecological Knowledge
- Human-wildlife interactions
- Open-source GIS tools development
- Ecosystem services evaluation
Recent work includes GIS-based modeling of forest dynamics and renewable energy systems, with notable contributions to r.green.biomassfor software development and the TransWILD project on transformative wildlife management. He co-developed the 1936 Italian Kingdom Forest Map and MeteoGIS platform.

As an educator, he directs:
