Dr. hab. inż. Marcin Wysokowski is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Chemical Technology and Engineering, Faculty of Chemical Technology, Poznan University of Technology. His research focuses on biomineralization, biomimetics, and the chemistry of chitin and its derivatives, with particular expertise in deep eutectic solvents for sustainable material synthesis. He maintains active scientific collaborations with TU Bergakademie Freiberg in Germany and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Laboratory for Atomistic & Molecular Mechanics.
Wysokowski's research interests span biomineralization processes, biomimetic materials development, chitin chemistry and applications, deep eutectic solvents, and marine biomaterials. His work bridges fundamental materials science with practical environmental and biomedical applications, particularly in developing sustainable alternatives to conventional materials and processes. His research demonstrates a strong interdisciplinary approach connecting chemistry, materials science, and environmental engineering.
His publication record shows a clear trend toward sustainable materials development, particularly through the use of deep eutectic solvents and marine-derived biomaterials. Recent work focuses on creating environmentally friendly solvents for metal recovery from e-waste, developing chitin-based membranes for water purification, and exploring novel applications of bioinspired materials. His research combines experimental work with molecular modeling to develop practical solutions for environmental challenges.
- Member of the Board of the Polish Chitin Society
- Editor of Nanomaterials (MDPI)
- Guest Editor for special issues in Nanomaterials and Marine Drugs (MDPI)
- Member of the expert team for Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique – FNRS (Belgium)
Dr. Wysokowski supervises research projects and teaches courses including Selected Issues of Contemporary Chemical Knowledge, Inorganic Chemical Technology (lectures, calculation exercises, and laboratory classes). His work demonstrates strong international collaboration, particularly with research groups in Germany and the United States, focusing on extreme biomimetics and sustainable material development.
