Marcia Glass

Marcia Glass, MD, is a Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she has been affiliated since 2012. She previously held roles at Tulane University, including founding Louisiana’s first palliative care fellowship and serving as Vice Chair of the Tulane General Medical Faculty (2021–2022). Her work spans global health, humanitarian medicine, and advocacy for marginalized populations.

Education: BA from the University of Chicago (1998), MD from Georgetown University (2003). Post-training included internal medicine residency at Tulane and a Yale/Stanford Johnson & Johnson Global Health Scholars Fellowship (2010). She has volunteered with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) in Liberia, Uganda, Colombia, and Ghana, and conducted palliative care work in India (as a Fulbright scholar), the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Navajo Nation during the pandemic.

Research interests include palliative care in humanitarian crises, addiction medicine, and psychedelics in palliative care. Her work has been published in *Annals of Internal Medicine*, *The Lancet*, and *NEJM*. She co-edited the award-winning *Oxford Field Manual for Palliative Care in Humanitarian Crises* (2019) and is completing *The Oxford Guide to Psychedelics in Palliative Care* (2024).

Awards include the Tulane Medicine Best Inpatient Attending Award, UCSF teaching accolades, and the 2021 British Medical Association Book Award. She advocates for incarcerated individuals’ rights and medical parole reform in Louisiana, testifying before state legislatures and serving on the 2021 Medical Parole Commission.

Leadership roles include peer advisor at SGIM/SSGIM conferences, faculty sponsor of Tulane’s Medical Student Outreach Clinic, and board member of Physicians for Social Responsibility. She holds certifications in Internal Medicine, Palliative Care, Addiction Medicine, and MDMA-assisted therapy.
