Marcia Dobson is a Professor in the Classics Department at Colorado College, where she has taught since 1976. She specializes in ancient Greek language, myth and religion, and serves as chair of the Psychoanalysis minor. Her interdisciplinary work bridges classical studies and psychoanalytic theory.

Her research explores connections between classical texts (particularly ancient Greek epic and tragedy) and modern psychological concepts like transitional space and relational self psychology. She has published extensively in interdisciplinary contexts and serves as Associate Editor for Psychoanalysis, Self and Context.
Marcia initiated Colorado College's psychoanalysis minor and teaches courses such as Ancient Greek Drama, Discovering the Unconscious, and Life of the Soul. She maintains a small private practice in Colorado Springs while continuing academic engagement through teaching and editorial work.
Personal details: Married to John Riker (Philosophy Department faculty), owns four Shetland sheepdogs, and co-teaches ballroom dancing with her spouse.
