Marcelo Bertalmío is a Senior Research Scientist at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), affiliated with the Instituto de Óptica "Daza de Valdés" in Madrid, Spain. Previously, he was a Full Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. His research bridges vision science, image processing, and computer vision, with significant impact in both academia and industry.
His research focuses on developing accurate computational models of human vision to enhance imaging technologies. Key areas include image inpainting, high dynamic range (HDR) imaging, wide color gamut (WCG), and cinematic post-production. His work has led to practical applications in broadcasting, cinema, and consumer electronics, and he actively collaborates with industry leaders like NHK and Intel.
Bertalmío's publications have garnered over 16,000 citations, and he is recognized among the world's top 2% scientists, ranking in the top 0.1% in his field. His influential paper on image inpainting introduced the term and methodology widely adopted in computer graphics and image restoration.
