Marcella Sorg is a Research Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Maine, affiliated with the Climate Change Institute and the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center. She directs the Center’s Rural Drug and Alcohol Research Program and collaborates with state agencies on opioid response and violent death reporting.

She contributes to public safety initiatives through partnerships with the Maine Office of Chief Medical Examiner and the National Violent Death Reporting System.
Key collaborations include working with the Maine Office of Behavioral Health and the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future. She also assists museums in skeletal material evaluation.
