معرفی
Marcel Quinet (1915–1986) was a prominent Belgian composer and educator. He held professorial roles at institutions including the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels, Academy of Etterbeek, and Chapelle Reine Elisabeth de Belgique. His teaching included piano, harmony, fugue, and composition. He served as director of music academies in Saint-Josse-Ten-Noode and Schaerbeek and held administrative roles at SABAM.
Quinet’s musical education began at the Académie de Musique in Binche, followed by studies at the Conservatoire Royal de Mons and the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, where he earned prestigious prizes such as the Prix Gevaert (1938) and Prix Agniez (1946). His compositional style evolved from tonal to modal and atonal forms, influenced by Bartók, Stravinsky, and the Viennese school. Later works incorporated Greek musical meter.
His awards include the 1945 Premier Grand Prix de Rome for La Vague et le Sillon, the 1959 Emile Doehaert Prize for Divertimento, and membership in the Académie Royale de Belgique (1978). Over 100 works and a comprehensive archive of manuscripts, correspondence, and recordings document his legacy.
Teaching and administrative contributions included professorships in composition, piano, and theory. His pedagogical materials and advocacy for musician solidarity through SABAM further highlight his impact on the Belgian musical landscape.
