Marcel H.P. van Genderen

Marcel H.P. van Genderen is an Associate Professor of Bio-organic Chemistry at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on bio-organic chemistry and NMR spectroscopy for analyzing complex molecular structures, particularly in supramolecular materials and polymers. He holds a PhD from TU/e (1989) and conducted sabbatical research at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (1995). From 2006 to 2018, he served part-time as Director of Education for TU/e’s Biomedical Engineering department.

His academic background includes a MSc in Chemistry (cum laude, 1984) and PhD research on DNA analogues’ conformational behavior. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through innovations in biomedical materials. Key research areas include supramolecular polymers, pH-responsive biomaterials, and self-assembling systems.

Recent publications (2020–2025) highlight advancements in vascular graft design, dynamic microgels, and hybrid supramolecular systems. He has supervised 36 academic works and contributes to courses like Biomaterials and Bio-organic Chemistry.
