Marc Schoenwiesner is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology, University of Montreal, and Adjunct Professor at McGill University's Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery. His research focuses on auditory processing mechanisms in the human brain using fMRI, EEG, and psychoacoustic testing. He has led and co-led numerous research projects funded by Canadian institutes, exploring topics like auditory cortex plasticity, hearing disorders, and sensory modification techniques.
Education: PhD in Biology (summa cum laude, 2004) from University of Leipzig; postdoctoral training at the Montreal Neurological Institute (McGill) and University of Helsinki.
Research Affiliations: Principal Investigator at the International Laboratory for Brain, Music and Sound Research (BRAMS) and member of the CERNEC (Centre de recherche en neuropsychologie et cognition). He has supervised three graduate students, including PhD candidates Ramona Kaiser and Régis Trapeau, and master’s student Valérie Aubrais.
Grants & Projects: Over 10 funded projects since 2009, including major initiatives on auditory cortex mapping (IRSC), brain plasticity in hearing disorders (FRQS), and deep learning applications in speech recognition (MITACS).
