Marc S. Williams, MD, is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Medical Genetics and Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah. He currently serves as Director of the Intermountain Healthcare Clinical Genetics Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he also operates a clinic for adult patients with genetic disorders. His career spans roles in pediatric practice, clinical genetics, and leadership in healthcare policy and genetics integration.
- Education: BS in Chemistry (1977), MD (1981) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; Pediatric Residency at the University of Utah (1981-1984); Fellowship in Clinical Genetics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Williams specializes in the intersection of genetics and healthcare delivery systems, focusing on health policy, genomic applications, and the economics of genetic services. He has contributed extensively to personalized medicine through leadership roles in national initiatives like the NHGRI’s eMERGE project and the CDC’s EGAPP Stakeholder’s Group.
His scientific contributions include over 50 peer-reviewed articles and leadership in organizations such as the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). He founded the ACMG Quality Improvement Special Interest Group and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Manual on Reimbursement for Medical Genetic Services.
