معرفی
Marc Groenen is a Professor of Prehistory at the Free University of Brussels (ULB), specializing in Upper Paleolithic cave art. With twenty years of research experience in French and Spanish caves, he has established himself as a leading expert in prehistoric artistic practices and symbolism.
His research focuses on:
- The social organization of prehistoric artists
- Cave decoration as ornate architecture
- Technical mastery in ancient rock art
- Intentionality behind Paleolithic artistic expression
Groenen's major publication represents the culmination of two decades of fieldwork, examining both the status of prehistoric painters and the complex intentions behind cave decorations. His analysis of graphic quality and technical sophistication demonstrates that Paleolithic communities possessed formal artistic training.
Currently, Professor Groenen leads the study of El Castillo Cave in Cantabria, Spain, and serves as a key member of the Chauvet Cave research team. His work has been published by the Royal Academy of Belgium in their prestigious Mémoires collection, featuring numerous original high-quality images from his field research.
