Marc Frick

Dr. Marc Frick is affiliated with ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research, where he worked in the Department of Environmental and Climate Economics. He holds a PhD from the University of Heidelberg (2020), with a thesis titled "The Gift as a Third Principle between the Market and the State?". His research focuses on gift theory, social asymmetry, and prosociality, exploring their implications for modern economic regulation and welfare state design. He has contributed to interdisciplinary debates on alternatives to market logic, particularly through engagements with Marcel Mauss’ work on gift exchange. His publications analyze how gift practices can foster social cohesion and complement state-market frameworks.
