Dr. Marc Etherington is an Assistant Professor at Northumbria University, affiliated with the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering. He is also a Junior Research Fellow at Hatfield College, Durham University, and an academic visitor at Durham University, collaborating with Prof. Andy Monkman on novel materials exhibiting thermally activated delayed fluorescence.
He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Cambridge (2016) and a BSc (Hons) in Physics from Durham University (2011). His doctoral research, supervised by Prof. Neil Greenham, focused on magnetic field effects on triplet states in organic semiconductors.
Research interests include excited state spectroscopy, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), thermally-activated delayed fluorescence (TADF), charge-transfer states, and organic photovoltaics. He explores photophysical properties of organic semiconductors and their applications in optoelectronic devices.
Marc has organized conferences like Maximising the rISC and visited institutions such as Kuwait University and Durham University. He is a member of multiple colleges' SCR committees at Durham University.
His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean energy and innovation, leveraging organic semiconductor advancements for functional optoelectronic systems.
