Marc Elskens is a Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and a Guest Professor at KU Leuven. His research focuses on environmental chemistry, water quality, and chemometric analysis. He leads projects on urban water systems, trace metals in aquatic environments, and food contact material safety.
Key projects include:
- Assessment of water quality in Brussels under EU regulations (funded by INNOVIRIS).
- Modelling metals in streams (supported by BELSPO and FWO).
- Development of ERE/DRE-CALUX bioassays for pollutants (funded by FOD and FWO).
- International Summer School on Quality Assurance in Testing Labs (part of the Measurement Science in Chemistry consortium).
Research interests span environmental chemistry, toxicology, and sustainable materials. His work combines field studies with advanced analytical techniques, addressing global challenges like pollution and resource management.
Recent collaborations include projects on plastic pollution in Brussels (BRGEOZ417) and Antarctic biogeochemistry (SRP68).
