Marc Callahan is an Associate Professor and the Robert and Norma Lineberger Endowed Chair in Music at Chapman University's Opera Chapman Conservatory of Music, part of the College of Performing Arts. He serves as Director of Opera Chapman and holds an office in Bertea Hall.

Callahan is renowned for his innovative opera direction and baritone performances. His creative work spans acclaimed productions such as Jean-Philippe Rameau’s Les Indes Galantes and Kurt Weill’s Der Jasager, which earned national awards. He has collaborated with prestigious institutions including the Royal Opera House, Aldeburgh Festival, and Théâtre du Châtelet. His research interests emphasize theatrical innovation in classical and modern operas, with a focus on stage design, historical authenticity, and audience engagement.
Recent performances include roles in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Figaro, and Die Zauberflöte, alongside concert works like Charpentier’s Leçons et Ténèbres. He has recorded with Virgin Classics and FRA Musica, and his upcoming projects include an Albany Records release of Gerald Finzi works.
Awards include the National Opera Association’s First Prize and the American Prize’s Charles C. Reilly Director’s Prize. Callahan actively contributes to interdisciplinary arts initiatives through Opera Chapman, emphasizing collaborative creation and modern opera development.
