Dr. Marc Brüssel is a permanent Lecturer for special tasks at Humboldt University of Berlin (HU Berlin) since 2005, serving as coordinator and academic advisor for Latin and Greek at the Central Language Center while chairing the university's Latinum and Graecum examination board. Since July 2019, he has led academic coordination in the Department of Didactics of Ancient Languages at the Institute of Classical Philology.
He earned his Master of Arts in Greek and Latin Philology from Freie Universität Berlin in 1998 with a thesis on Greek Rhapsodes after studies in Berlin and Thessaloniki (1990-1998), followed by teaching experience in Canada and editorial work on Castrum Peregrini journal volumes.
Brüssel's research centers on classical language didactics for adult learners, specializing in historical development, curriculum design, textbook methodology, and diagnostic assessment systems. His work bridges pedagogical theory with practical implementation in university-level Latin and Greek instruction.
His publication portfolio reveals consistent focus on adult classical education evolution, with monographs analyzing German educational history (2018) and university Latin pedagogy (2015), complemented by contemporary project development including "Latinum 2.0" digital initiatives and Modern Greek blended learning courses.
As spokesperson for the Latinum/Graecum lecturers' group since 2011, he has secured project funding through HU Berlin's Excellence Initiative and led national working groups at German Association of Classical Philologists congresses on examination design and curriculum innovation, while developing certification frameworks adopted across German universities.
