Prof. Dr. Marc Brecht is a faculty member at the University of Tübingen, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and the Department of Chemistry under the Institute of Physical Chemistry. His research focuses on biophysics, bio-nano physics, and method development for low-temperature single-molecule spectroscopy.
- Biophysics: Investigates protein dynamics in photosynthetic systems like Photosystem I and II.
- Bio-nano physics: Studies interactions between photosynthetic proteins and plasmonic nanostructures to enhance light-harvesting efficiency.
- Method development: Innovates 3D imaging at cryogenic temperatures and software tools (SMS-Tool) for single-molecule data analysis.
His 15 most recent articles (2014–2017) span disciplines including biophysics, nanotechnology, and spectroscopy. Subfields include single-molecule techniques, energy transfer mechanisms, plasmonic coupling, and cryogenic sample preparation. Scientific contributions include a patent for a rapid low-temperature sample exchange system, addressing technical limitations in cryogenic spectroscopy.
Current advisees include PhD candidates Imran Ashraf, Felix Blendinger, Achim Junginger, and Sepideh Skandary. Former group members like Michael Metzger and Dr. Alexander Konrad contributed significantly to publications and patents.
The Brecht Group collaborates with AK Meixner and AK Kern at the University of Tübingen to develop hybrid systems combining light-harvesting proteins with nanostructures for biological solar cells.
