Mara Klein is a Research Fellow at the University of Münster's Faculty of Catholic Theology, Institute for Christian Social Sciences, working on the DFG-funded project 'Precarious Recognition: The 'Third Gender' from a Social-Ethical Perspective.' Her research focuses on gender diversity, intersex and transgender issues, and their intersection with Catholic theology and ethics.
- Academic Education: First State Examination for Secondary School Teaching in English and Catholic Religion (2015-2022) from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.
- Doctoral Research: Working on 'Dualism vs. Diversity - Catholic Gender Anthropology under Critique' for a Dr. phil. degree under Professors Judith Könemann and Maria Anna Heimbach-Steins.
Her research interests include gender studies, queer theology, and social ethics, examining how theological anthropology and ecclesiastical structures address contemporary gender diversity. Publications and lectures emphasize intersex recognition, transgender inclusion, and critiques of right-wing political movements like AfD from a Catholic perspective.
Her work connects theological discourse with social-ethical frameworks, advocating for queer-sensitive pastoral care and challenging binary gender norms in religious contexts. Collaborative research with scholars such as Lea Quaing highlights interdisciplinary approaches to gender and political theology.
