María Payeras Grau is a Professor of Spanish Literature at the University of the Balearic Islands' Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, where she has taught since 1982. She specializes in post-Civil War Spanish poetry, gender studies in literature, and the reconstruction of literary canons. Her administrative leadership includes directing the Department of Spanish Philology (2000-2004) and the Student Residence (1995-2000).
Research interests center on:
- Spanish poetry of the 1950s and its socio-political contexts
- Female authorship in contemporary Spanish literature
- Marginalized voices in post-war literary movements
- Intertextual dialogues in transitional-era poetry
Her scholarly publications (15+ books/monographs) focus on poetic diversity, feminist literary recovery, and canonical reevaluation. Recent works analyze intergenerational dialogues in Spanish poetry (2021) and female voices during the Transition era (2020).
Awards include:
- Honorary Doctorate from the University of Valencia (2015)
- Sial Essay Prize (2002)
- Miguel Fernández Research Grant (2003)
She leads the GRINLIBE research group (Iberian and Ibero-American Literatures) and previously directed POESCO (Poetry Studies). Her six national research projects include four as principal investigator, alongside two teaching excellence initiatives.
