Maoz Fine

Prof. Maoz Fine is a Professor at the Department of Ecology, Evolution & Behavior, Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His research focuses on understanding marine ecosystem dynamics under environmental changes, particularly coral reef resilience. He leads a lab investigating coral physiology, symbiotic interactions, and impacts of global warming.

Key research topics include coral-alga interactions, marine heatwave effects, and coral energetics. Current projects explore light-driven metabolic processes and steroid influences on coral reproduction. His lab combines fieldwork in Red Sea reefs with controlled experiments using advanced facilities like the Red Sea Simulator.

Supervises a dynamic research group including Ph.D. students Naama-Rose Kochman (coral energetics), Chen Azulay (steroid effects on reproduction), Julia Cerutti (seagrass ecology), and M.Sc. researchers focusing on coral-fungi associations and pigment responses. Lab manager Britt Ronen and technician Dror Komet support field and aquarium operations.
