Manuella Catterou is a Lecturer in Cell Biology specializing in plant biotechnologies at the University of Picardie Jules Verne. She serves as Head of the Master 2 Science and Technology of Agriculture, Food and the Environment (ST2AE) program and oversees internships and work-study programs for approximately 100 students annually, while teaching molecular genetics, crop improvement genetics, and bioinformatics across bachelor's and master's degrees.
Her research centers on plant molecular genetics, functional genomics, and ecophysiology, with emphasis on nitrogen metabolism in Arabidopsis, Miscanthus, and Camelina. She investigates plant responses to environmental constraints including low nitrogen inputs and abiotic stresses, and examines resulting soil-plant-insect interaction dynamics to develop sustainable agricultural systems.
Analysis of her publication record reveals consistent focus on nitrogen use efficiency in crops, plant-microbe symbioses (particularly Sphingomonas-mediated biostimulation), and ecological assessment of grassland conservation. Her work integrates molecular physiology with field ecology to address agricultural sustainability challenges across diverse cropping systems.
Dr. Catterou has secured funding from regional (Hauts de France), national (ANR), and European initiatives, leading projects including NEWSUN (sunflower innovation), WOODNET (landscape connectivity), and current initiatives 3C2B (cover crop biostimulation) and ROSTIM (agri-food by-product biostimulation), demonstrating sustained commitment to translational agricultural research.
