Manuel de León Rodríguez

Manuel de León Rodríguez is a Research Professor at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Director of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (ICMAT), a joint research center between CSIC and three Madrid universities (UAM, UC3M, UCM) since 2007. His work focuses on Differential Geometry and its applications to Mechanics and Mathematical Physics.

His career has emphasized international promotion of Spanish mathematics, including roles in the International Mathematical Union, leadership in the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society, and coordination of national mathematical initiatives. The ICMAT, under his direction, has been recognized as a Severo Ochoa Center since 2011, reflecting its status as one of Spain's premier research hubs.

Scientific awards and leadership roles include:

• Refounder and vice-president of RSME
• Director of La Gaceta de la RSME (1998-2004)
• President of the Spanish Mathematics Committee (2004-2007)
