Manuel Westermann

Manuel Westermann serves as Visiting Professor for Timpani at the Berlin University of the Arts' Faculty of Music within the Institute for Artistic Training - Orchestral Instruments and Conducting, and concurrently as main lecturer for orchestral timpani at Dresden University of Music since 2020/2021.

Research and Performance: Westermann specializes in timpani techniques and orchestral percussion repertoire. As principal timpanist of the Dresden State Orchestra since 2014, he performs regularly with Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich State Operas. His pedagogical focus centers on timpani performance practices and orchestral training for emerging musicians.

Advising: Through his dual academic appointments, Westermann mentors students in timpani performance, emphasizing orchestral preparation and professional development within ensemble settings.
