Manuel Vogt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at University College London (UCL) and co-head of UCL's Policy Lab 'Democracy and Peace' program. He authored the book Mobilization and Conflict in Multiethnic States (Oxford University Press, 2019).
Education and Academic Background:
- Ph.D. in Political Science from ETH Zurich (2014)
- Visiting Postdoctoral Research Associate at Princeton University
Research Focus: Vogt's work explores contentious politics at the intersection of international security and comparative politics, particularly in multiethnic societies. His research also addresses the role of ideology in political conflict, the origins of elite networks, and their impact on political order. Broad disciplines include political science and conflict studies, with subfields such as ethnic relations, political theory, and security analysis.
Non-Academic Experience: He worked as a German language teacher for adult immigrants in Switzerland for over a decade and volunteered as a social worker for street children in Tegucigalpa, Honduras (2008–2009). A passionate traveler, he has spent more than twenty years exploring Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.
