Manuel Pérez Sánchez is an Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Murcia, affiliated with the Department of History of Art and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. He co-directs the CEART-UM (Center for Art Expertise) and is a member of the Huellas Project funded by Cajamurcia Foundation. His academic career began with a PhD from the University of Murcia (1997) on liturgical textile ornamentation in Murcia (16th–19th centuries), supervised by Dr. Jesús Rivas Carmona.
Research interests focus on Sumptuary Arts, emphasizing liturgical textiles, decorative arts, and material culture linked to religious practices. He has curated exhibitions such as Patrimonio Perdido, Patrimonio Recuperado (2022) and organized international congresses like the 2024 I Congreso Internacional El Arte del Bordado in Lorca. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary preservation strategies.
Recent publications explore topics like Mexican silverware donations to Spanish churches, 19th-century liturgical embroidery, and the material legacy of Spanish royal patronage. He actively participates in interdisciplinary projects funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, including studies on conventual heritage and the socio-cultural role of documentary films in art history.
Future initiatives include co-chairing the 2025 XXV National Congress of Art History in Murcia, celebrating the city’s 1200th anniversary, and advancing research on cross-cultural exchanges in decorative arts through international symposia.
