Manuel Egele is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boston University, part of the College of Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on software security, web security, and privacy in mobile systems and online social networks. He holds a PhD from Vienna University of Technology (2011). Egele has contributed extensively to cybersecurity through publications on fuzzing techniques, anomaly detection in HPC systems, and hardware security primitives. His work spans embedded systems, firmware re-hosting, and vulnerability mitigation in web applications. Notable projects include Refine for HPC anomaly detection and PROTEUS for detecting Android emulators. His research emphasizes practical solutions for real-world security challenges, leveraging machine learning and hardware-software co-design.
