Manuel Castells is a distinguished University Professor at the University of Southern California (USC), holding appointments in the Annenberg School for Communication, Department of Sociology, School of Policy, Planning, and Development, and School of International Relations. Previously, he served as Professor at the University of California, Berkeley (1979–2003), and held roles at institutions including the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. His research focuses on sociology of social movements, political economy, urban sociology, and the interdisciplinary analysis of the information society. He has authored seminal works like Technopoles of the World and Communication Power.
