Manu Paranjape is a Full Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Université de Montréal's Department of Physics, part of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on Quantum Field Theory, gravitation, quantum tunneling, spin systems, solitons, and non-commutative geometry, with applications to cosmology, condensed matter physics, and quantum computing. He holds a PhD from MIT (1984) and has been at Université de Montréal since 1986.
- Affiliations: CRM (Centre de recherches mathématiques), Groupe de physique des particules (GPP), and affiliated with the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.
- Education:
- PhD in Physics, MIT (1984)
- MSc in Physics, University of Alberta (1979)
- BSc in Physics, University of Alberta (1978)
Research Interests: Explores theoretical particle physics, topology in field theory, alternative gravity theories, quantum spin tunneling, and quantum gravity. His work bridges quantum field theory with cosmological and condensed matter phenomena.
Awards: 4th place in the Gravity Research Foundation competition (2013).
Grants & Projects: Lead researcher on NSERC-funded projects on quantum field theory applications (2023–2029) and gravitation (2016–2023). Co-researcher in CRM strategic initiatives (2015–2023, 2008–2016). Published The Theory and Applications of Instanton Calculations (2017).
Teaching: Courses include PHY-2345 (Theoretical Tools of Physics), PHY-6210 (Advanced Statistical Mechanics), and PHY-6812 (Quantum Field Theory).
