Manon Benders is a Full Professor of Neonatology at the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital, UMC Utrecht, leading the Department of Neonatology since 2015. She holds dual qualifications as a Pediatrician-Neonatologist and Senior Clinical Lecturer at King's College London (2014). Her career spans international fellowships including UCLA (1997) and expertise in neonatal neurology under Prof. Linda de Vries.
Education: PhD from Leiden University (1999), Pediatric-Neonatology qualification under Prof. Frank van Bel (2006).
Research Focus: Improving long-term outcomes for high-risk infants via neuroimaging/neuromonitoring, congenital heart disease interventions, and brain injury prevention. Key initiatives include perinatal surgery impact analysis and cerebral palsy diagnostic communication strategies.
Awards: 1991 Leids Universitair Fonds Award for Doppler-sonography research; 2005 NSCK Reward for national hyperbilirubinemia registry.
Labs/Teams: Leads four research groups: Congenital Heart Disease, Perinatal Neuroimaging, Brain Injury Protection, and Perinatal Surgery. Active in clinical ethics through AI-assisted diagnostics research.
