Dr. Manjira Ghosh Kumar serves as an Associate Professor of Biology and Chemistry at Cottey College. She holds a B.Sc. from the University of Calcutta, M.Sc. from Kalyani University, and a Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America. Her research focuses on the biochemical and molecular responses of cyanobacteria to environmental pollutants and chemical toxins, including antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. She also investigates bacteriophage T4 DNA packaging mechanisms, contributing to virology and enzymology. Dr. Kumar is a member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
- Education:
- Bachelor of Science, University of Calcutta (India)
- Master of Science, Kalyani University (India)
- Ph.D., The Catholic University of America (Washington, D.C.)
Her research lab examines the impact of environmental toxins on aquatic microorganisms, specifically cyanobacteria, and explores bacteriophage biology. Key themes include antimicrobial finishes on textiles, DNA packaging nuclease regulation, and enzyme interactions in viral systems. Publications span journals such as Nucleic Acids Research and Molecular Microbiology.
