Dr. Manika Saha is a Research Fellow in the Department of Design at Monash Art, Design and Architecture (MADA), Monash University, where she contributes to the Health Futures research programme within the Emerging Technologies (ET) Research Lab. She previously served as a Research Fellow in ICT for Development at Monash’s Faculty of IT and as Monitoring, Evaluation, and Research Manager at the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership, Deakin University. Her interdisciplinary background bridges public health, human-centric computing, and design for social impact.
Dr. Saha holds a PhD in Human-Centric Computing from Monash University, an MSc in Global Health from Queen Margaret University, UK (Commonwealth Scholar), and undergraduate and master's degrees in Food and Nutrition from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her professional experience includes roles at WorldFish (CGIAR) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN in Bangladesh, where she led research on nutrition, agriculture, and gender equity.
Her research focuses on participatory methodologies such as co-design, action research, and participatory media to ensure marginalized communities shape technologies, policies, and development interventions. Key areas include food and nutrition security, mental health, gender equity, health systems, climate resilience, and humanitarian innovation. She is particularly committed to amplifying the voices of disadvantaged communities in decision-making processes.
Dr. Saha’s recent publications span top-tier venues including The Lancet, CHI, and Nutrients, reflecting interdisciplinary trends in human-computer interaction, global health, and socio-technical systems. Her work increasingly integrates voice-based technologies, narrative co-creation, and community-centered design for inclusive development.

Dr. Saha is actively involved in mentoring and is currently accepting PhD students. She has led and contributed to numerous international research projects funded by USAID, World Bank, IFAD, and the European Union. Her collaborative network includes UN agencies, NGOs, governments, and academic institutions globally.
She works within the Emerging Technologies Research Lab at MADA, focusing on the Health Futures programme, where she leads initiatives that combine design innovation with public health outcomes. Her team emphasizes co-creation with end-users, particularly women, Indigenous peoples, and rural communities in low-resource settings.
