Manhar R. Dhanak is a Professor in the Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), affiliated with the SeaTech Institute for Ocean & Systems Engineering. His research focuses on ocean turbulence, hydrodynamics, and physical oceanography with expertise in vortex dynamics and flow modeling. Dr. Dhanak holds a Ph.D. from Imperial College, University of London.
His research interests span ocean turbulence, hydrodynamic phenomena, physical oceanography, and flow-induced electromagnetic fields. He has pioneered studies on boundary-layer dynamics, turbulent convection, and autonomous ocean measurement systems. His work integrates experimental and computational methods to address challenges in coastal oceanography and fluid mechanics.
Key contributions include advancements in AUV-based ocean observation technologies, turbulence control via surface oscillations, and large-eddy simulations of Ekman layers. His research has been applied to littoral zone surveys and collaborative programs like SFOMC, demonstrating real-world impact on naval and environmental monitoring.
