Manfred Lang is an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Theology of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. His work bridges New Testament studies with Classical Antiquity, focusing on Acts of the Apostles, Gospel of John, and ancient historiography.
- Education: Studied theology at Oberursel, Heidelberg, and Erlangen (1985–1992).
- Academic Appointments: Research associate since 1992; awarded habilitation in 2007; appointed adjunct professor in 2014.
Lang's research explores Christian identity in Roman contexts, Stoic philosophy, and reception of classical texts in biblical literature. His recent publications (2018–2019) examine freedom in Roman philosophy, spatial metaphors in Acts, and Epictetus’ influence on Pauline theology.
His work contributes to debates on Lukan Paulinus, ancient selfhood, and kerygmatic structures in the Gospels. He has published extensively in WUNT, BETHL, and EBR series.
Lang teaches courses on Paul, Johannine literature, and Seneca, with materials and syllabi freely available online. His methodological approach combines exegetical rigor with cultural-historical analysis.
