Manfred Hauke

Manfred Hauke is a Full Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Faculty of Theology of Lugano, Università della Svizzera italiana, where he has served since 1993. He serves as Director of the Rivista Teologica di Lugano and holds leadership roles in international theological organizations, including presidency of the Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Mariologie and membership in the Pontificia Academia Mariana Internationalis. In 2020, Pope Francis appointed him to the Vatican Commission studying the female diaconate.

Education: He studied theology at the Faculty of Theology in Paderborn and the University of Munich, earning his doctorate under Leo Scheffczyk. He was ordained as a Catholic priest in Paderborn in 1983.

Research Focus: His work centers on four core areas:

• Theological Anthropology – Human identity in relation to divinity
• Mariology – Doctrinal studies of Mary, with 10+ authored/edited books
• Sacramental Theology – Especially the diaconate and Eucharist
• Systematic Theology – Coherent frameworks for Catholic doctrine

Editorial Leadership: He founded and edits the Collana di Mariologia book series and co-edits two theological journals: Mariologisches Jahrbuch and Forum Katholische Theologie.
