Manel Baucells is the Lynch Family Associate Professor of Business Administration at Darden School of Business, University of Virginia. He holds a Ph.D. from UCLA Anderson School, an MBA from IESE Business School, and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
His research incorporates psychological realism into consumer behavior models, focusing on factors like reference point formation, mental accounting, psychological distance, anticipation, fatigue, and satiation. He teaches Decision Analysis and Behavioral Decision Making in MBA programs.
Professor Baucells has received numerous awards including the SPIE Dennis Gabor Award (2018), Institute of Physics Thomas Young Medal (2017), and Optica's R. W. Wood Prize (2016). He has published extensively in top journals including Management Science and Operations Research.
