Dr. Mandy Truong is an Adjunct Research Fellow at Monash University's School of Nursing and Midwifery, and a Research Fellow at the Australian Institute of Family Studies. She holds academic affiliations including Honorary Fellow at Deakin University (since 2020) and previously served as Senior Project Officer at Menzies School of Health Research (2019-2022). Her research focuses on cultural competence, racism's health impacts, Indigenous health equity, and family violence. She has over 17 years as a registered optometrist with clinical experience.
Education includes a Doctor of Philosophy (University of Melbourne, 2016) on cultural competence in community health, Masters of Public Health (Melb, 2013), and Optometry degrees (Melb, 2005). She has led/co-investigated 3 major projects including studies on racial discrimination in healthcare and CALD transplant outcomes.
Research interests span health equity, cultural safety, and systemic racism's effects on marginalized groups. Over 55 peer-reviewed publications address topics like telehealth accessibility, AI in medical education, and Indigenous wellbeing. Her work contributes to UN SDGs for health equity and education.
Active in peer review for journals including Violence Against Women and BMC Medical Education. Media engagements include commentary on racism in academia and faith-based responses to family violence.
