Mandy Guinn

Mandy Guinn serves as faculty at United Tribes Technical College through the HHMI Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program. She instructs courses including Advanced Genetics (BIO 216) and TES 499, focusing on integrated phage genomics and microbiology education across both computational (in silico) and laboratory (in situ) modalities.

Her research centers on bacteriophage genomic analysis using Mycobacterium smegmatis hosts, with specific expertise in bioinformatics pipelines for phage discovery and evolutionary genomics. This work directly supports undergraduate training in microbial genetics and computational biology through structured course-based research experiences.

She has mentored two students across Spring 2018 and Spring 2019 cohorts in phage genomics projects, utilizing the SEA-PHAGES national framework for collaborative science education. Her instructional approach integrates weekly laboratory and computational sessions to develop technical skills in genomic annotation and microbial characterization.

As an active SEA-PHAGES network participant, she contributes to the program's mission of advancing undergraduate science education through bacteriophage research, collaborating with institutions nationwide on curriculum development and genomic data analysis initiatives.
