Mandeep S. Bajwa is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Head & Neck Surgical Oncology at the University of Surrey and an Honorary Consultant Head & Neck Reconstructive Surgeon at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. He holds the role of Specialty Lead for Surgery in the NIHR South East Regional Research Delivery Network. His academic affiliations include the School of Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, within the Section of Oncology under the Clinical Sciences discipline.
Education: Mandeep holds a PhD, MSc, BDS (Dentistry), MBChB (Medicine), and FRCS (Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons).
Research Interests: Mandeep focuses on surgical trial design, patient-reported outcomes, and innovative approaches to Head & Neck Cancer, including Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma. His work addresses challenges such as mandibular bone invasion, osteoradionecrosis, and microvascular reconstruction. Current projects include the 'Your Voice Matters' study exploring patient-reported outcomes in head and neck cancer.
Teaching Roles: He leads the 'Making Sense of Evidence' module in the Graduate Entry Medicine program and teaches on the Cellular and Molecular Pathology MSc. He also contributes to the Liverpool Practical Microvascular Course.
Grants and Trials: Mandeep is involved in pivotal trials like RAPTOR (PENTOCLO efficacy in osteoradionecrosis) and DEFeND (fibrin sealant use in neck dissection). These trials emphasize evidence-based surgical practices and patient outcomes.
Clinical Expertise: He specializes in complex surgical procedures such as free-flap reconstruction, managing jaw tumors, salivary gland cancers, and surgical innovations to improve patient care.
