Mamdooh Ghoneum

Mamdooh Ghoneum is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. He is an internationally recognized immunologist specializing in cancer immunotherapy, particularly the development of non-toxic biological response modifiers (BRMs) like MGN-3. His work focuses on leveraging natural compounds and yeast-based therapies to enhance cancer treatment efficacy and modulate immune responses. Dr. Ghoneum has published over 90 articles and holds three patents for cancer-related BRMs. He has received prestigious awards, including nominations for the Gotham Prize in Cancer Research (2007).

Research Interests: Dr. Ghoneum’s groundbreaking research includes:

• Development of MGN-3 (arabinoxylan) to boost chemotherapy efficacy in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)
• Yeast therapy for cancer metastasis and immune activation
• Anti-radiation compounds like MRN-100 for radiation-induced damage
• Probiotic fermentation products for Alzheimer’s and diabetes management

Awards: His accolades include awards from the American Cancer Society (1993), Japan Functional Food Research Association (2002), and Filipino-Chinese Medical Society (2005).
