Mamata Parhi is a Professor of Economics and Finance and Head of the AFEG (Accounting, Finance, Economics & Governance) Subject Group at Roehampton Business School, University of Roehampton. She previously held roles as Senior Lecturer and Lecturer at Swansea University's Wales Institute of Social & Economic Research, Data & Methods (WISERD), and worked as a researcher at the University of Strasbourg and a consultant at India's National Institute for Public Finance and Policy.
Education includes a PhD in Economics and Policy Studies of Technical Change from UNU-MERIT (Maastricht University), an MPhil in Economics (First Class, Delhi School of Economics), and an MSc in Analytical & Applied Economics (Utkal University). She earned a University Gold Medal for her MSc achievements.
Research interests span Empirical Industrial Organization, Economics of Innovation, Spatial Economics, Applied Macroeconomics, and Finance. Notable projects include grants from the Netherlands Science Foundation, Welsh Assembly Government, EPSRC, and Leverhulme Trust. She leads initiatives like the 'Chambers of Commerce for Local Business Engagement' (2021–2022) and collaborates on SDG-aligned studies.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on Managerial Economics, Managing International Trade, and Research Methods. She is an External Examiner at Richmond University and an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Finance & Economics.
Key awards include the 2024 Best Paper Award (First Runner Up) and 2015 Best Research Paper Award. Her work bridges academic research with practical applications in policy and business sustainability.
