Malin Stegmann Mccallion is a Senior Lecturer in Political Science at Karlstad University, specializing in EU-related governance dynamics. She holds a PhD from Queen’s University Belfast (2001-2004) and has held academic roles at Aberystwyth University (2007-2008), University College Dublin (2005-2007), and Limerick University (2005). Her research focuses on multi-level governance, Europeanisation, paradiplomacy, and differentiated integration, particularly analyzing Sweden’s complex relationship with EU processes.
Teaching commitments include courses such as EU Studies, International Politics, and the Swedish Welfare State Model, with a focus on distance education. She actively supervises postgraduate and undergraduate students, having mentored Magnus Lindh (PhD), Peter Wall (Licentiate), and Christina Odenstad (Licentiate). Academic collaborations involve leading Karlstad University’s partnership with Laikipia University, Kenya, and participation in the UACES CRN on Differentiated Integration after Brexit.
Her research outputs emphasize Sweden’s 'awkwardness' in EU integration, regional diplomacy, and digital transformation strategies in traditional industries.
