Malin Nissen serves as a Research Associate and Doctoral Candidate at the University of Leipzig's Institute of Political Science since October 2024, specializing in transnational civil society networks within the post-Soviet space. Her academic affiliation stems from the Heisenberg Chair of International Relations and Transnational Politics, where she conducts research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Solveig Richter.
Her research interests focus on Transnational Civil Society Networks, examining civil society organizations in post-Soviet states through expert interviews and qualitative content analysis. She investigates ideological tensions between democracies and autocracies, with particular attention to civil society's role in political mobilization and discourse shaping within the EU and post-Soviet regions. Her methodological approach incorporates social and discourse network analysis to understand how civil society can accelerate democratic renewal under authoritarian pressure.
As an educator, she teaches courses including Theories of Civil Society, The EU in Practice, European Integration, and Between Memory and Reconciliation after Violence at the University of Leipzig across multiple semesters.
