Malcolm Slaney is an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) and an Affiliate Faculty in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and maintains an active role at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI).
His research integrates signal processing, machine learning, and big data to study human auditory perception, neurophysiology, and multisensory integration. Current investigations focus on neural attention mechanisms and computational audio perception models.
Dr. Slaney has received significant recognition including IEEE Fellowship and ACM Senior Membership. He has led pioneering projects such as the first EEG-based auditory attention decoder and the Video Rewrite facial animation system.
He directs the auditory group at the Telluride Neuromorphic Cognition Engineering Workshop and has led Stanford's Hearing Seminar for over 20 years. His extensive industry experience includes research positions at Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, IBM, Apple, Bell Labs, and Schlumberger.
