Professor Cook is a pioneering figure in low-energy building design, renowned for his expertise in indoor air quality and ventilation. His research focuses on building performance analysis with significant contributions to understanding how buildings can be designed for optimal energy efficiency while maintaining healthy indoor environments. His work has shaped building design and industry standards worldwide through partnerships with industry and contributions to CIBSE and ASHRAE guidelines on ventilation effectiveness and computer simulation.
- Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng)
In 2021, Professor Cook demonstrated exceptional leadership by heading a Covid-19 pandemic research consortium that provided essential evidence to the UK government on safely reopening large entertainment and sporting venues. He has also shown sustained commitment to developing engineering skills and education both in the UK and internationally through various initiatives and partnerships that have influenced engineering curricula and professional development programs.
As Dean of the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering, Professor Cook oversees academic programs, research initiatives, and strategic development for the school, bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical application in building engineering.
