
Malcolm Campbell-Verduyn

Malcolm Campbell-Verduyn is a Senior Lecturer in International Political Economy at the University of Groningen’s Faculty of Arts, Department of International Relations and International Organization. He holds a PhD from McMaster University and has held academic positions including Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto and Senior Research Fellow at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg. His research focuses on emergent technologies, non-state actors, and expert knowledge in global governance, particularly blockchain and big data in environmental, financial, and security sectors.
Education: PhD in International Relations (McMaster University, 2015), MA in Political Science (Universiteit Leiden, 2008), BA in Political Science (York University, 2007).
Research Interests: Blockchain governance, digital identity, financial regulation, sustainability, and the intersection of technology and global policy.
Professional Roles: Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Yearbook of Data Autonomy, Treasurer of the ISA STAIR section, Coordinator of the Sustainable Technology Research Group, and member of the Global Internet Governance Academic Network.
Key Contributions: Author of Bitcoin and Beyond: Cryptocurrencies, Blockchains and Global Governance (2018) and Professional Authority After the Global Financial Crisis (2017). His work examines technology’s role in reshaping governance, post-crisis financial ethics, and the implications of decentralized systems.
