Mal McMillan

Mal McMillan is a Professor in Earth Observation at Lancaster University, where he serves as Co-Director of the Lancaster-UKCEH Centre of Excellence in Environmental Data Science (CEEDS) and Co-Director of Science for the UK Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling (CPOM). His work focuses on satellite geodesy and polar ice sheet dynamics to understand sea level rise.

• Education: PhD in Satellite Geodesy (2012), MSc in Remote Sensing (2006), MA in Mathematics & Philosophy (2003), all from the University of Edinburgh.

Research interests include Earth Observation, Polar Science, Remote Sensing, and Climate Change. His recent articles highlight Satellite Altimetry for polar ice sheet monitoring, Subglacial Hydrology, and Environmental Data Science.

He supervises PhD students in Polar Science and advises on ESA satellite missions. Current projects span ESA and UKRI funding, including Digital Twin Components for ice sheets and Arctic Extreme Weather studies.
