Prof. Maksym Yarema is a Lecturer at ETH Zurich's Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. His research focuses on nanomaterials, semiconductor systems, and phase-change materials for advanced electronic and energy applications. Key areas include colloidal nanoparticle synthesis, structural analysis using in situ techniques, and development of novel materials for memory devices and energy storage.
Research interests span nanocrystal engineering, with emphasis on composition-controlled systems like Cu-Zn-In-Se and Ag-In-Se/ZnSe for optoelectronics. Contributions also include phase-change memory materials (GeTe, Sb nanoparticles) and intermetallic alloys for hydrogen storage. His work integrates experimental and computational methods to understand material behavior at atomic and device scales.
Notable advancements include inkjet-printed phase-change memory devices, amorphous phase stabilization in antimony nanoparticles, and high-fidelity DRAM sense amplifier analysis through IC imaging. These innovations address challenges in data storage, energy efficiency, and scalable manufacturing.
