Mak Ariane is a Lecturer in British History at Paris Cité University, affiliated with the Department of History within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD from the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS), completed in 2018, and is an active researcher in 20th-century British social and labor history. Her work is deeply rooted in oral history and ethnographic methods, particularly through the use of Mass Observation archives.

Her research interests span British labor history, wartime society, working-class culture, political graffiti, and the social history of knowledge. She explores how communities navigated war, labor struggles, and consumption under austerity, with a focus on mining towns. Her methodological emphasis on oral history and archival ethnography informs both her publications and supervision of graduate students.
Her recent publications reflect a strong thematic focus on Mass Observation, wartime morale, gender and labor, and political expression through graffiti. These works appear in leading journals such as 20&21. Revue d’histoire, Le Mouvement social, and Historical Studies in Industrial Relations. She also contributes to edited volumes on European labor and social movements.

She plays an active role in the academic community as a member of the editorial boards of Annales. Histoire, Sciences Sociales and 20&21. Revue d’histoire, and as an external reviewer for the ERC. She co-organizes major conferences on oral history and political graffiti and contributes to collaborative research projects such as the COST program 'Who Cares in Europe?' and the MATOS project on militant memory. She is also involved in academic governance, serving on the LARCA Council and UFR Management Board.
She supervises master's and doctoral students in British history, social history, and oral history methodologies, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to labor and cultural studies.
